about

"This is precisely the time when artists go to work. There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal." -Toni Morrison
I know you are hurting, I am hurting.
Throughout the years music has always been a coping method for men dealing with the consistent trauma of living while black. In my youth there was no shortage of strong Black voices to validate my feelings and assure me that I wasn't crazy and that this is all wrong.
This song, produced by long time collaborator Krohme, is an attempt to synthesize all that I appreciated about that era. It's a bit louder and direct than my normal delivery, I allowed the emotion to flow first and the lyricism to follow.
The song will be available on all streaming platforms soon.
I don't want you to buy it or do anything for me except know that you are not alone in your anger, in your rage against the senseless murders of Blacks at the hands of the authorities. It's 2020, you know how to support and where to support so please do. I will leverage my social platforms to support the local efforts of the Community Justice Project in the South Florida area where I reside.

lyrics

If he were made to realize how black people really feel
And how fed up we are without that old compromising sweet talk
Stop sweet-talking him.
Tell him how you feel
Tell him how — what kind of hell you’ve been catching
And let him know that if he’s ready to clean his house up
If he’s not ready to clean his house up
He shouldn’t have a house
It should catch on fire and burn down

Ayo
Riot in the streets
Release
No Justice No Peace
A rumble in the belly of the beast
West to east
Victim of police
Poor man least
While the rich man feast
More than enough to feed for many lifetimes
Cut off my lifeline
Cause you don’t like mine
No we ain’t like mind
I keep a tight Grind
I write rhymes to expose your evil white mind
You know the type kind
To incite crime
That old CIA white line pipeline
That old land is mine divine right kind
Twist the words and there’s the third Reich kind
Right now right here just to be clear
2020 is the year
Yeah yeah this still happening
Same damn song that I know I’m gonna rap again

Now I got to run to keep from hiding
And the road goes on forever
And I got one more silver dollar
But I’m not gonna let ‘em catch me no
Not gonna let ‘em catch me no
I put the pressure to your headphones
When I get up in that zone
Like get off my neck bone
Dead bones in your foundation
Bank built off the Brown nation
Proud aint ya
Give the credit to your predatory foul nature
And you wonder why the crowd hates ya
Like you ain’t dropping off them bricks in them piles aint ya
I see you moving
“Whistle blows” violation
Flag on the play flag flying high over it
Is we under God or is you over it
Holy shit police is
Holding a revolver it’s
Leaving niggas holy like Jehovah is
A-men

Damn y’all they took the mask off
They roll around with fire power like a task force
We roll around fire power we get blast on
Castile aint the first or the last one
My wife worried about me being the next one
I’m worried about me seeing the checks come
Bills closing in on my immediate direction
Escape infection
Pray for protection

Ayo he has risen
An uprising
Call it what you want but don’t call it surprisin’
Call it I had enough of your lies an
Along with rising up we wising
But the size and the complexity is next to the impossible
Next week will be worried ‘bout the hospitals
No healthcare broke confined overcoming obstacles
You about as close to black as possible
But they aint got a cure for this
And even this discriminated
We demonstrated so we don’t gets eliminated
For all them slaves that ran away but didn’t make it
All different shades from women whipped and penetrated
Smallpox covered mutilated
How you the native
Hater when the natives got obliterated
Going Will Smith on these aliens
And you going to deal with it
Until we balance out the scales again
